Self-Development Classes

Senior Expressions-Weekly group sessions designed specifically for visually impaired seniors age 60 and over. Join us each week for dinner and discussion. We will have guest speakers and timely topics based on your requests. Presentations will take place during the meal from 3:45 – 4:30 pm. Connect with old friends and expand your current social circles.

Moving Forward-This is a support group for visually impaired seniors and adults. A safe, confidential place to discuss among peers your frustrations, concerns, and even sense of humor elated to vision loss. New members are required to meet with the group facilitator prior to attending group. There are 3 sessions of the support group.

Women's Empowerment-Join a group of other women to share life's ups, downs, and in-between. This is a confidential space to explore the various roles that women have - daughters, mothers, friends, partners, caregivers, etc.

Beginner Braille Instruction-Small group instruction on the basics of introductory Braille. Since this is a continuous class, returning students will be given priority. Please note our new summer schedule.

1 to 1 Braille Instruction-This weekly course is recommended for committed students who learn better through individual instruction. Please note: facilitator can only take a very limited number of students. Consistent attendance is required for this class. Mary will be working only with seniors interested in learning basic Braille.

National and Local Politics-This class will use a single adaptive computer to access the Internet for the very latest, up-to- the-minute info on the current trends.

Brain Busters-What is the only temperature that is the same on both the Celsius and Fahrenheit scales? Join the Intergenerational volunteers and find out! EYES (Every Year, Every Story)-This class will read and discuss the works of African American, Caribbean, African and Latino writers form the 20th and 21st century. Members of the book club are strongly advised to get and familiarize themselves with the new digital player that can be obtained for free from the Andrew Heiskell Library.
